How can you help me if I cannot get on the internet? My browser says “page cannot be displayed”.
If your Windows computer will not get on the internet follow these instructions.
Turn computer off and then turn on while tapping F8 key several times immediately after turning on.
Stop tapping when a menu appears. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING. With a Windows XP laptop you may need to use an Ethernet network cable into a port on the back of your router or perhaps bypass your router and plug directly into your modem. You may also need to reset the power on your modem and or router. If so please turn all items off, then turn on modem first and wait one minute, then turn on router second and wait one minute then turn on computer last and keep following instructions here.
After highlighting press the ENTER key two times. The screen will fill with many lines of text. Wait.
The next screen may ask for login information. Pick an account other than ADMINISTRATOR. Type in password if prompted , then tap the ENTER key on your keyboard.
You may see a WELCOME screen and then you may see a screen that says you have started in safe mode. Click yes to acknowledge that message. On other computers a help windows will appear describing the features of safe mode. Close any of these windows.
Things will appear differently now. The shortcut icons will be large, there will be a black background and the corners will have SAFE MODE appearing as a reminder with a build number at the top of the screen
Now try to get to a website using whatever program or browser you feel comfortable with.
If you can navigate to websites you are successful and are ready for the next step to have a technician take remote control of your computer.
If you still cannot get to a website reset the internet explorer settings to factory settings by following these steps
Open Internet Explorer, click on Tools on the top toolbar, click on internet options at the bottom of the list, click on the advanced tab at the top of the options window, click on the reset button towards the bottom and watch for the green checkmarks to indicate progress. Click Done then close the Internet Explorer and then open Internet Explorer and test for success in browsing. Try several pages. You will be prompted for accepting certain settings or changing certain setting within Internet Explorer. This is a personal choice so act accordingly.

What is spyware/malware? Why did this happen? Why can’t I get on the internet?
In the majority of cases malicious software (malware) has invaded your computer from online sources and rendered it unable to get on the internet and even slowed the other programs and overall operation to a very slow unusable or unstable state. This causes much frustration and some people may even think their computer cannot be fixed and may be tempted to replace the PC. Macs and Linux systems are generally not nearly as susceptible for a variety of reasons and thus some people may be inclined to move from PC to Mac. In any case, the PC is fixable and through a variety of methods and techniques, the technician can restore your PC to its original speed and performance.
